Stainless steel bar tolerance lookup FAQ

What does h9 mean on a stainless steel bar drawing?

For an h tolerance, the upper deviation is zero and the bar may be slightly below nominal size within the allowed tolerance zone.

Is h8 tighter than h9?

Yes. A lower grade number means a narrower tolerance zone, so h8 is tighter than h9.

Can I use this lookup for a quotation request?

Yes, as a quick reference. For quotation, also send the grade, nominal diameter, tolerance, finish, length and quantity.

What if my nominal diameter is above 120 mm?

Send the drawing or target size for review. This first version focuses on common bar ranges up to 120 mm.

Need tolerance review for an actual order?

Send the grade, shape, nominal size, tolerance, finish, quantity and destination. We can review whether the requested path is practical before quotation.
