Delivery forms

Quick Answer

What should buyers specify for 304 stainless steel coil?

Choose the delivery form

State whether the factory needs master coil, 304 slit coil or cut-to-length sheets. Each route changes the width, handling and packing requirements.

Define surface and film

Write 2B, BA, No.4 or HL separately from the grade. Add grain direction, film type and the visible side when appearance matters.

Set the coil limits

Give thickness, width, coil ID, maximum coil weight, edge condition, quantity, MTC requirement and destination before pricing.

Production Fit

304 coil fits repeated feeding, stamping and sheet programs

Factories choose 304 stainless steel coil when production needs continuous feed, repeated widths or a steady cut-to-length program. Master coil suits buyers with their own processing line. Slit coil reduces in-house width preparation. Cut-to-length supply is often cleaner when the factory needs flat blanks rather than coil handling.

Repeated manufacturing

Common quotation scopes include stamped covers, appliance parts, kitchen components, enclosures and light industrial panels.

Processing details

Slitting depends on final width, tolerance, edge expectation and rewind limits. Cut-to-length orders also need length, flatness, film and bundle details.

Availability basis

The workable route depends on the requested thickness, width, finish, processing plan, order quantity and current source-coil availability.

Useful Tool

Estimate sheet weight after cut-to-length processing

Use the plate weight calculator when the coil will be leveled and cut into fixed sheet dimensions.

Applications

Where manufacturers use 304 stainless steel coil

Stamped parts and covers

304 coil is used for repeated stamped components, equipment covers and formed housings when the drawing accepts the grade and surface.

StampingForming

Appliance and kitchen components

Sheet-metal programs may specify 2B, BA, No.4 or HL according to whether the finished part is hidden or visible.

Appliance partsKitchen equipment

Slit coil production feed

Custom-width slit coil can feed bending, roll-forming and fabrication lines when width tolerance, edge and coil weight are agreed.

Cut-to-length sheet programs

Leveling and cut-to-length convert coil into repeated sheet sizes for panels, blanks and downstream fabrication.

Delivery Form

Master coil, slit coil and cut-to-length serve different production steps

Choose the delivery form before comparing quotations. The same grade and thickness can require different processing, packing and receiving checks.

Surface and Protective Film

Write the finish, grain direction and film as separate requirements

304 and 2B are not the same part of the specification. The grade identifies the material route; the surface controls appearance and downstream handling. No.4 and HL also need a stated grain direction. Protective film should be agreed by film type, protected side and removal expectation, especially for visible panels.

2B and BA

2B is common for general cold-rolled fabrication. BA provides a brighter appearance, but the acceptable visual standard should still be clear.

No.4 and HL

State the directional finish, grain orientation and whether processed sheets must keep the same visual direction.

Protective film

Specify the protected side, film requirement and any forming or laser-processing needs before production.

MTC and Coil Traceability

Match the 304 MTC to the coil label and packing list

A certificate is useful only when it connects to the material being shipped. Before release, compare the grade wording, standard, chemistry, Heat Number and product description on the MTC with the coil label and packing list. For slit coils, each finished coil should remain identifiable after the source coil is divided.

Grade and standard

Check that 304, SUS304 or the ordered standard wording is consistent with the PO and accepted certificate route.

Heat Number

The Heat Number should connect the MTC, source coil, finished slit-coil labels and packing list.

Product description

Confirm thickness, width and coil identity separately. An MTC does not replace dimensional or surface inspection.

RFQ Example

Send one specification for material, processing and packing

A useful RFQ can read: ASTM A240 304 stainless steel coil, 0.8 mm thick, source width 1219 mm, 2B surface, coil ID 508 mm, maximum 5 MT per coil, mill edge, MTC required, destination Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Please quote master coil and an alternative for 304 slit coil at 300 mm width, including width tolerance, edge condition, individual labels and export packing.

Material

Give the grade wording, governing standard, thickness and surface.

Processing

State master, slit or cut-to-length form together with final dimensions, tolerance, edge and film.

Delivery

Add quantity, maximum coil weight, MTC needs, label wording, packing and destination.

FAQ

304 stainless steel coil FAQ

What is 304 stainless steel coil used for?

304 stainless steel coil is commonly used for stamped parts, appliance and kitchen components, equipment covers, enclosures, slit-coil production feed and cut-to-length sheet programs. The final grade and surface should follow the drawing and service conditions.

What surface finishes are available for 304 stainless steel coil?

Common cold-rolled options include 2B and BA, while No.4 and HL are used for directional visible finishes. Buyers should state the finish, grain direction, protected side and film requirement before ordering.

Can 304 stainless steel coil be slit to custom width?

Yes, subject to the source-coil dimensions and a workable slitting plan. Send the thickness, final width, tolerance, edge requirement, coil ID, maximum coil weight, quantity and packing details.

What should I send for a 304 stainless steel coil quote?

Send the grade and standard, delivery form, thickness, width, surface, protective film, coil ID, maximum coil weight, edge, quantity, MTC requirement, packing and destination.

What should buyers check on the MTC for 304 coil?

Check the grade wording, standard, chemistry and Heat Number, then match the Heat Number to the coil label and packing list. Also inspect dimensions and surface because the MTC does not prove the final slit width, flatness or finish.

Send the complete 304 coil specification for quotation.

Share the grade and standard, master/slit/cut-to-length form, thickness, width, surface, film, coil ID, maximum coil weight, edge, quantity, MTC needs, packing and destination. We will check the source-coil route and processing options.
